Driver automation

If the product feature driver automation is activated, an automatic job runs every three minutes to process eligible tasks automatically.

Behavior

Driver automation performs two separate actions:

  1. It accepts eligible pending tasks.
  2. It completes eligible accepted tasks after their negotiation time has passed.

Automatically accepted tasks

At the moment, driver automation automatically accepts only pending pick up tasks.

Automatically completed tasks

Tasks are completed automatically only when all of the following are true:

  • The task belongs to a current, non-final vehicle planning.
  • The task itself is not already in a final state.
  • The task’s negotiation time has passed.
  • The task is in a state that allows completion.

This can apply to the following task types:

  • pick up
  • drop off
  • start of shift
  • end of shift
  • start of pause
  • end of pause
  • repositioning

Scope and limitations

  • The automation checks only current vehicle plannings that are not in a final state such as cancelled or completed. Future or finished vehicle plannings are ignored.
  • End of shift is completed only if no other active tasks remain in the same vehicle planning.
  • End of pause is completed only after the related start of pause task has already been completed.
  • Future tasks are not completed early.
  • The resulting task history reflects planned timings, not actual driver actions.

Use cases of this feature

Ideally, there should be no need to use this feature. It is intended as a fallback when a product relies on Control Center planning but does not use the driver app in day-to-day operations. In such cases, this feature ensures that tasks still progress automatically. This is especially useful for keeping operational data and reporting consistent, although the resulting data is based on planned rather than actual execution.
