Personal discount types

A personal discount type is the definition of a discount that an eligible user can receive. It belongs to a provider and describes how the discount reduces a fare, how long it stays valid, and which of the provider’s products it applies to. Individual discounts are then granted to users as personal discounts, each based on one of these types. This item appears in the Control Center provider sidebar only when the personal discounts feature is active.

Personal discount types are managed at the provider level. The Personal Discounts Manager role can create, view, update, and delete them for a provider, and the Personal Discounts Viewer role has read-only access. See provider-specific roles for the full permission lists.

View personal discount types

From the provider view in Control Center, open the Personal discount types page in the provider sidebar. The types are listed in a table, with deactivated and more recent types shown first.

Create a personal discount type

Permissions: create_personal_discount_types

To create a personal discount type, select Create new and enter the following information.

  • Title. The name of the discount type (up to 250 characters).
  • Description. A description of the discount type (up to 2,000 characters).
  • Discount type. How the discount is applied. The options are:
    • Absolute. A fixed amount is deducted from the fare.
    • Relative. A percentage (from 1 to 100) is deducted from the fare.
    • Fixed per passenger. The fare is set to a fixed price per passenger.
    • Fixed per ride. The fare is set to a fixed price per ride.
  • Validity. How the discount is consumed. The options are:
    • Usage. The discount is valid for a maximum number of usages.
    • Time. The discount is valid within a time range.
    • Usage and time. The discount is valid for a maximum number of usages within a time range.

For a usage-based discount, enter the maximum usages. For a time-based discount, choose the time validity mode: either relative to creation (with a default duration) or a fixed start and end date. You can also restrict the discount to specific applicable products, station categories, or zone codes.

A discount type can optionally be marked as purchasable, in which case a price is required. See purchasable personal discounts (passes).

Edit a personal discount type

Permissions: update_personal_discount_types

To edit a personal discount type, open it and select Edit. Once a type is in use, only the purchasable flag and the price can still be changed.

A personal discount type can also be activated or deactivated from this page. Deactivating a type prevents new personal discounts from being granted based on it; discounts that were already granted are not affected.

Delete a personal discount type

Permissions: delete_personal_discount_types

To delete a personal discount type, open it and select Delete. A type cannot be deleted while it is still in use—that is, while personal discounts or promo codes reference it, or while it is referenced by the provider’s referral settings.
