Passenger types

For what passenger types are, see Passenger types in Platform. Passengers choose these when they book a ride.

Standard roles have read-only access to passenger types. Creating, editing, and deleting them is restricted to a Super Admin by default.

Permissions: create_passenger_types (a Super Admin)

To create a passenger type, select Create new and enter the following information.

Attributes

  • Name. Enter the name of the passenger type.
  • Slug. Enter the slug of the passenger type. In general, slugs serve as unique identifiers that are used to reliably identify resources. Slugs may only contain lowercase letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), underscores (_), and hyphens (-). Spaces, uppercase letters, and special characters are not allowed.
  • Bookable. Select yes or no from the dropdown menu. This determines whether the passenger type may be used to book a ride.
  • Faring category. Select adult, child, infant, full, reduced, or free from the dropdown menu to indicate the faring category of the passenger type. The faring category groups passenger types for fare processing and pricing. This means you can define product-specific passenger types, such as student or senior, and still map them to a supported fare class such as reduced or full.
  • Type (icon). Select adult, child, default, default_alt, or infant from the dropdown menu. This field determines which icon should be rendered for the passenger type.
  • Sort key. Enter a sort key. This field is used to order the passenger types in Control Center and in ioki Passenger App.

Resource consumption

Specify the resources that are required by the passenger type.

The matching algorithm uses these values—for example, seats, wheelchair bays, walker bays, and storage units—to check if there is a vehicle available that is able to serve this demand.

In a product, the passenger type Adult has a resource consumption of Seat = 1 and Storage units = 2. There is one active vehicle planning that is assigned to a vehicle with an interior configuration of Number of seats = 5 and Number of storage space units = 1. If a user tries to book using this passenger type, the ride is canceled with the reason “No vehicle available” since the vehicle is lacking storage space. In this case, the matching logs will show the error overbooked_vehicle_resources, which indicates that there is not enough capacity in the vehicle.
