Running a report
This page describes how to open a report, choose the dates you want to see, and read the report view while its data loads. For an overview of how you move around the application and which reports you can see, start with Navigation and scopes. This documentation is written for the Extended Reporter role.
Open a report
- In the navigation, select the report you want to view under Reports.
- ioki Reporting opens the report and loads its data for a default date range. The default range is based on the report’s own suggested query timeframe and ends on the most recent day that has data. Reports that hold only a few rows may default to a longer range, while data-heavy reports may default to a single day. For more about how each report sets its default range, see Reporting.
The report view
The report view has two parts: an info header at the top and, below it, the report content on one of two tabs.
Info header
The info header identifies the report and how to read it.
- Report title. The name of the report you opened.
- Description. A short explanation of what the report contains, shown below the title.
- About this report. A documentation link, shown as an info icon, that opens the report’s built-in documentation in a dialog. This link appears only for reports that have documentation. For where else this documentation appears, see Documentation, FAQ, and changelog.
- Timezone note. A line in the form “All times in timezone” followed by the report’s timezone, so you know which timezone every date and time in the report uses.
- Release stage. A badge that marks reports that are not yet stable. It appears only for non-stable reports and shows one of Alpha, Beta, Closed beta, Open beta, or Deprecated. Stable reports show no badge. For what each stage means, see Reporting.
Tabs
Below the info header, the report content appears on one of two tabs. The tabs are shown only when the report supports charts.
- Data. The data table, where you filter, sort, and page through the report rows. See Working with the data table.
- Charts. Time-based charts built from the report’s aggregations. See Charts.
Choose a date range
On the Data tab, a date field pair above the table sets the range of the report. The label above the pair names the date the report filters on, which differs from report to report. Change the start and end dates, then select Refresh to reload the table for the new range.
Date and time controls for the Charts tab work differently, including preset shortcuts such as Today, Yesterday, and Last 7 days. Those controls are described in Charts.
Data loading and progress
Report data can take a moment to load. While it loads, ioki Reporting shows a progress bar with the message “Loading report data. Please wait.” The table appears when loading finishes.
When a report cannot load
Two outcomes can interrupt a report:
- “Time span too large”. If the chosen range holds too much data to analyze, ioki Reporting replaces the table with a “Time span too large” message that asks you to choose a smaller reporting time span. Narrow the date range and select Refresh.
- Load error. If the data cannot be loaded for another reason, ioki Reporting shows an “Unable to load” message with a Retry action. Select Retry to try loading the report again.
