Manage vehicle availability
Drivers can manage the current vehicle connection directly in ioki Vehicle App. Some products also allow drivers to deactivate and reactivate a connected vehicle during operations.
Connect a vehicle
If no vehicle is connected, the app shows a connect action. The connection flow asks for the vehicle’s license plate and creates the vehicle connection after confirmation.
The same connect flow is available from the home screen and from the vehicle tile in the menu.
You can connect a vehicle only if it belongs to your product, is not archived, and is not already connected to another driver. You can have one vehicle connected at a time, so to switch vehicles you first disconnect the current one.
Disconnect a vehicle
If a vehicle is already connected, the vehicle tile opens a disconnect confirmation dialog instead of the connect flow.
If open tasks are still assigned, the dialog warns the driver before disconnecting. After the driver confirms the dialog, the app removes the vehicle connection and stops showing the task feed that belonged to that vehicle connection.
Automatic disconnect of unused vehicles
ioki Platform automatically disconnects vehicles that are connected but appear to be unused. This clears up connections that a driver left open, for example after forgetting to disconnect at the end of a shift.
The platform runs this check once an hour, at five minutes past the hour. A connected vehicle is disconnected automatically only when both of the following are true:
- The vehicle has no active task list. In other words, it is not currently on a shift with assigned tasks.
- The vehicle has not reported a recent location. A vehicle counts as having no recent location when its last position report is more than 10 minutes old.
When both conditions apply, the platform disconnects the vehicle. The result is the same as a manual disconnect: the vehicle connection is removed and the vehicle is set to inactive. The driver stays signed in and can connect a vehicle again at any time.
Because the check requires the vehicle to have no active task list, a vehicle that is on shift and working through tasks is not affected, even if its location reports are briefly interrupted.
Deactivate or reactivate a vehicle
Some products show a dedicated tile for vehicle availability.
- If the vehicle is active, the tile lets the driver deactivate it.
- If the vehicle is deactivated, the tile lets the driver reactivate it.
If a driver tries to use this tile without a connected vehicle, the app shows a message that the vehicle must be connected first. Deactivation is available only while the vehicle is connected and on an active shift, and only if the product lets drivers change vehicle availability.
When this matters
Vehicle availability is separate from the driver’s sign-in session. A driver can stay signed in while changing the connected vehicle or its availability state.
